A Bit of Old with the New

Unfortunately, sometimes an old song can become familiar and the words aren't as meaningful. When we've heard it all our lives, we can sing it woodenly without thinking too much about it. That's why I like an old song with a new arrangement and some new words. It helps grab our attention and speaks anew and afresh to the soul.

Last Sunday we sang It is Well (with my soul). When I got to work on Monday, I had an email from someone who wanted to know the name of the song that was sung...and he gave some details so I could figure out which one he meant. I looked it up and watched the youtube version.

It really spoke to me and echoed my own feelings, so I showed it to Andy and we watched it together. When I turned around to look at him after the song was finished, he was crying. It is that meaningful!

It is Well (With My Soul).

Verse 1
Grander earth has quaked before
Moved by the sound of His voice
Seas that are shaken and stirred
Can be calmed and broken for my regard

Chorus
And through it all, through it all
My eyes are on You
And through it all, through it all
It is well
And through it all, through it all
My eyes are on You
It is well with me

Verse 2
Far be it from me to not believe
Even when my eyes can't see
And this mountain that's in front of me
Will be thrown into the midst of the sea

Chorus
Through it all, through it all
My eyes are on You
Through it all, through it all
It is well
It is well

Bridge x3
So let go, my soul, and trust in Him
The waves and wind still know His name (repeat last line during 3rd run)
It is well with my soul
It is well with my soul
It is well with my soul
It is well with my soul
It is well it is well with my soul x3

Chorus x2 (softly slowly)
Through it all, through it all
My eyes are on You
Through it all, through it all
It is well with me.

I want this to be the prayer of my heart and my firm resolve: through it all, my eyes are on the Lord and it is well with my soul. Hallelujah.

After church last Sunday, the day stretched before us and I got to thinking it would be nice to be able to go somewhere. More thinking led to wishing I could see our girls and their families a little more often. So I texted both Amy and Christy, our PA families to ask if they had any Sunday afternoons free and could we come visit. We were able to work it out and get two dates on the calendar.

Amy's the first one. We left after church this morning and drove to Lancaster County. Amy fixed us a lunch of lasagna and salad with rolls. Yummy. We watched the kids swim for a while in their pool before deciding to head on over to a nearby pond for the guys to do some fishing. It was a really nice afternoon as long as we stayed in the shade.

It was such a pleasure watching the kids occupy themselves and have fun fishing, playing in the water, coloring on the blanket and just being together with this dear family.

It was such a peaceful, idyllic setting, it was impossible not to feel relaxed and at peace. Can you tell we're in Lancaster County???

And we even saw a teeny baby bunny just sitting in the grass.

It was a lovely day - a beautiful gift.

Yes, indeed...it is well with my soul. Through it all, the good and the bad, I can trust in Him, it is well with my soul.
