I also made a scarf for myself. It seems like I haven't lost the touch!
I think Andy has been a little bored, too. He is working on our "yellow" bathroom, the one off the foyer. When we built that part of the house, we put in a door from that bathroom into Mom & Dad's bedroom. However, in all the 5 years that they've been here now, they never used that door. In fact, they put a curtain on that wall in their bedroom and placed a bureau in front of it. So we decided to take out the door and replace the shower stall with a full bath tub with shower. It seemed more practical for our upstairs guests. The shower stall was so small that even I was uncomfortable when I used it. Several weeks ago, Andy took out the door and closed off the space.
Several months ago, the girls decided they wanted to make an effort to get together once a month so they could visit and the cousins could play together. In January we hung out at Christy's one day. February got away from us, but today we went up to the gym where Amy works and spent a couple of hours there. Unfortunately, 3 of Christy's kids were sick during the night and she wasn't able to join us. After we ate a nice lunch that Amy provided, we spent the rest of our time at the pool. Andy and Amy went in with Chase. He loved it. Amy took Joanna in the water, but she kept trying to climb out of the tube she was floating in. And Kira didn't like the water either. In fact, she had an allergic reaction to the chemicals in the pool and her little tummy got all red and itchy.

It was so much fun being together. Chase and Joanna were so excited when we arrived, then with all the swimming and playing, I heard from the mommies that all the kids fell asleep in the car on their way home. And I confess that I closed my eyes and slept for about 15 minutes, too.
Monopoly, monopoly, monopoly; oh, how I love you so.
Sometimes the girls worked together at concocting a story or developing a play. And they also liked to involve neighbor kids and friends invited over from church on a Sunday afternoon. They also liked to use a typewriter I had at the time (in the days before computers). And how many plays did Andy and I get to watch through the years?! It warms a parent's heart to see her daughters working and playing together harmoniously and enjoying sisterly camaraderie.
What a great resource that book has been for me. The book is divided up into chapters: Nonfiction, Classics, Genre Fiction, Biography, Poetry, Spiritual Growth Books. In each chapter, she lists books that fit those categories.
The language she uses in the book is so descriptive and rich. I was hooked by the first paragraph: Bright was the summer of 1296. The war which had desolated
After having traversed many a weary rood, the venerable minstrel of the house of Wallace, exhausted by fatigue, sat down on the declivity of a steep craig. The burning beams of the midday sun now beat upon the rocks, but a few berries from the brambles, which knit themselves over the path, with a draught of water from a friendly burn, offered themselves to revive his enfeebled limbs. Insufficient as they appeared, he took them, and strengthened by half an hour’s rest, again he grasped his staff to pursue his way.

We've received 71 inches of snow so far. And just think...the winter is not over yet. There are still 36 days till spring and sometimes our worst snowstorms are in March. Yikes! Where will we put it if we do get more?

This seemed vaguely familiar today. Didn't we just experience a day of snow blowing and shoveling? And huge piles of snow on bushes, trees and picnic tables? Well, it sure is beautiful and I love the excuse to stay in the house all day, keeping the home fires burning! While Andy worked at clearing the driveway, I did housewifely things: laundry, vacuuming, baking and cooking.
I think we got about 21 inches of snow. It's been a stormy, snowy winter so far. And there's another storm coming in a couple of days.
